You Eat Dogs? Cows? Whales? by Patty Shenker

August 2nd, 2011

  1. Meat, sadly, is a universal ‘food’, though the particular animals eaten vary from country to country. I purpose that, to support the eating of any animal is to globally support the eating of every animal. Americans eat cows, Koreans eat dogs and the Japanese eat whales and none of it is necessary, healthy or humane. Because the truth is that all of these animals suffer, physically & psychologically, to end up on your plate. As Jeremy Bentham wrote in 1789, arguing for moral & legislative rights for animals-“The question isn’t- Can they talk? Nor- Can they reason? But- Can they suffer?” So I ask that, if you are repulsed by the eating of certain animals as you eat others, you acknowledge your complicity and reconsider your food choices.

    About
As anyone who knows me knows, I have a lot of opinions and I need a place to express them. I want to make it creative, interesting, and personal. I want to share what I love and what I despise. I am interested in politics, the arts, environmental issues, human and animal issues and deeply appreciate humor. This is a work in progress, just like myself.

    Quote Of The Month
“Making art is the opposite of making war. It is about slowing time down, not speeding it up. There is little profit and no collateral damage.” ~ Sue Coe

    Restaurant Guide
My friend, Masako Maxwell, and I have compiled a list of all the vegetarian/vegan restaurants from Ventura to San Diego for the farm sanctuary we love, Animal Acres. Please visit these restaurants AND our wonderful animals at the farm. Thank you!
