Cetacean Freedom

SeaWorld is now owned by Blackstone Group. There are three of them in the United States- San Diego, California, Orlando, Florida & San Antonio, Texas. If you are like me and are against marine mammals being used in entertainment and bred for future marine parks, then it is important to boycott all of their businesses. That is why I have provided a list of the businesses owned by the Blackstone Group.

Just this past week, another killer whale, Taima, died while giving birth to a stillborn boy calf. SeaWorlds and zoos want the public to think that their breeding of animals is part of “conservation” but, I assure you, it is not. In my opinion, “conservation” takes place in and for the animals in the wild- to ensure their survival in the wild. No animals bred in zoos or marine parks ever go back to the wild; they wouldn’t survive there. So their breeding is for the sole purpose of having more animals in zoos and circuses and aquariums. The amount of money spent on breeding animals in captivity is enormous and, for several animals, the breeding is mostly unsuccessful and often fatal to the mother and baby. Imagine if the millions of dollars spent on breeding in captivity would go to the real conservation in the wild! We could really save these species from what is, for many of them, an imminent  demise.

While SeaWorld does do some good work in rescuing and rehabilitating sick or injured wild marine animals, they raise the money for this by exploiting the captive ones. I would like to see SeaWorld and zoos switch their focus from exploiting to rescuing animals- there are plenty of them! Until they do, I will boycott. So please join me in boycotting  these companies & politely let them know why. This is a long, hard fight to end the exploitation of wild animals in entertainment but each of us can speak with our voices and with our choices of how we spend our money. Thank you!

    About
As anyone who knows me knows, I have a lot of opinions and I need a place to express them. I want to make it creative, interesting, and personal. I want to share what I love and what I despise. I am interested in politics, the arts, environmental issues, human and animal issues and deeply appreciate humor. This is a work in progress, just like myself.
