Celebrating 40 Years as a Vegetarian!
This year 2010, I am celebrating a 40th! It’s not my birthday or my anniversary to my loving husband. This anniversary is forty years of being a vegetarian, though I did become vegan in 2001. I am very proud of this milestone. These years have gone by very quickly and, with each decade, being a vegetarian has become easier and more acceptable and there are many more of us, I am happy to say. Continue reading »
Zoo elephants ‘treated as badly as intensively farmed chickens’
Conservationists said the Government funded study should have called for an outright ban on bringing anymore elephants into UK zoos Photo: ALAMY
This is an amazing article which basically compares elephants in zoos to confined, caged chickens in factory farms. Being an advocate against both of their confinement, I must admit that I never thought of this comparison. I think it is brilliant- and true! Continue reading »

the Mercury News

The circus is coming to town — in Oakland this week, and in San Jose next. For parents who want their children to experience the best of everything in life, the spectacle of wild animals performing amazing tricks seems like thrilling family entertainment. However, attending these events has subtle effects on children that parents should consider. Continue reading »

I haven’t really written about human rights but i believe that human & animal rights are interrelated. Just as a strong correlation has been found to link human and animal abuse, so it is with our rights. I was raised in a family whose parents fought for human rights, whether it was fighting the injustice of the criminal court system which was their expertise or fighting for the betterment of the poor and the many forms of the “underdog”. One of these discriminated groups are our farm workers who work so hard and get so little. So I am outraged by our California governor, the multi-millionaire Arnold Schwarzenegger, for vetoing a bill passed by both parties to pay farm workers overtime. I am posting this incredible opinion in the LA Times on August 3 because he presents the historical and present discrimination of our farm workers and points to the disgrace of this veto! The OnionJune 2, 2010
Topsy charms the crowd with a “silly hula dance” that he has been conditioned to fear performing incorrectly.
TUCSON, AZ—Cheers, laughter, and applause filled the big top tent at the Ringling Bros. Circus Saturday as children of all ages were captivated by the savage enslavement of Topsy the elephant. Continue reading »

The Huffington Post
By Ari SolomonMarch 24, 2010
A few years ago, I learned of the terrible conditions animals endure in factory farms, and the devastating impact these operations have on our health and the planet. I decided to change my diet. What I never expected was just how political and touchy the subject of food is for most people. Continue reading »

Captain Paul Watson, founder of Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, on board his ship in Cannes during the Cannes Film Festival 2010. (Stephanie Cornfield, For The Times / June 3, 2010)
I have been a major supporter of Sea Shepherd for many years. I am proud to say that I am in part responsible for the helicopter they use to spot the Japanese whaling ships. I am outraged at the countries who kill these whales and other marine mammals and am outraged at our President for wanting to end the moratorium on whaling. Please let him know that you are in favor of strengthening the laws against whaling, not weakening or erasing them. Continue reading »

SeaWorld is now owned by Blackstone Group. There are three of them in the United States- San Diego, California, Orlando, Florida & San Antonio, Texas. If you are like me and are against marine mammals being used in entertainment and bred for future marine parks, then it is important to boycott all of their businesses. That is why I have provided a list of the businesses owned by the Blackstone Group. Continue reading »
Animal rights, writ too large?
Last month, I saw this billboard on Pico Ave. in West Los Angeles. I had heard that the animal abusers were displaying these ridiculous billboards around Southern California again. This says to me that they are getting nervous at our victories and fighting back- of course with their outrageous lies and scare tactics, much like the tea baggers did when discussing health care reform. Then, by coincidence, I found this article from the July 2009 LA Times about similar billboards that were up back then by the same group. I think Meghan Daum has written a very intelligent and honest account of these confusing billboards. Please make sure to go to their website- www.BewareAnimalRadicals.com to learn more about their campaigns against us. Continue reading »
